“We loved having our own private tour which we could tailor to what we wanted to see and do. Claudine gave grea insights and organised unique cultural and coffee trips which go beyond a standard safari in Africa. I truly felt like I got a real, authentic experience of Uganda that also gave back to community members.”

Claudine is one of those rare people who combine a passion for the beautiful place she calls home, the Kisoro region of SW Uganda, with her knowledge of the communities that live there. She has been an advocate for supporting women coffee farmers that live and farm in the Bwindi Forest region, home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. Besides helping them grow the best arabica specialty coffee, which provides much needed income that helps deter any poaching of gorillas and other forest animals, she now has introduced eco-tourism to visitors who want an authentic experience of this region’s community that incorporates village life culture, gorilla conservation activities, gorilla trekking, and safaris to Uganda’s premier National Parks. Caldera Tourism provides a wonderful opportunity to visit and become immersed in the beauty of the people and the land. If you love coffee and would like to see how your love of animals can contribute to helping to keep their habitats safer, then this type of “travel with a purpose” – something I’ve always enjoyed, is perfect for you. This is my fourth trip that involves touring with Claudine, and each time, I find new places to visit and continue to see magnificent animals and meet amazing people. 5 stars to Claudine and her team.

Since 2019, I have taken 5 tours with the Caldera founder, Claudine Meldine. The first trip was to learn more about Uganda and their protection of the Mountain Gorillas. Being on the tours she ran I learned more about the integration of Coffee farming and how it protected the gorillas. Then I learned that she had been involved with teaching and improving the way coffee was being grown and improving the coffee quality in Uganda. Coffee was the 2nd biggest export for Uganda farmers.. 2023 in Paris international contest her growing and roasting skills won Best ARABICA coffee. Her enthusiasm and the services she provides with drivers, lodges and places she knows made me a lover of Uganda. i find that she is very competent and experienced .. just tell her what you want to see learn and what your budget is and she can make it all happen. NO Problems.

Uganda is home to ‘The Big 5’ safari animals: the lion, African buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopard.
Plus, it is one of the few countries to still see the endangered mountain gorillas in the wild.
There are so many more amazing animals like chimps, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, plus an abundance of birdlife. If you are a wildlife buff, Uganda won’t disappoint.

We know that time pressure is always an issue for travel. We believe any time in Uganda is better than no time, which is why we tailor a range of tours and bespoke offerings to suit you. We suggest at least 7 days, but 10 - 15 days would be recommended.

Gorilla trekking can be demanding, but anyone can do it if you are determined! The tracks do vary, so it is hard to tell how long you may be required to track before a possible sighting. We recommend a decent level of fitness, but porters can assist you on the way if needed. There is also a service where you can be carried up the mountain, ensuring any accessibility issues is accounted for. Talk to us about this if that is you.
